Our Mission:

The primary purpose of Let’s Talk is to provide people in the greater Waterville area with opportunities to improve their
ability to speak foreign languages. The ability to speak a foreign language is a valuable skill that opens many doors
including overseas volunteer opportunities, re-connection with family roots and increased knowledge and understanding
of other cultures. Let’s Talk will provide motivated language learners with opportunities to use their language skills here
and abroad.

Immigrants and other people in our community who speak foreign languages are a valuable resource and these people will
form an important part of Lets Talk. Let’s Talk will arrange language exchanges between people who want to improve
their foreign language and native speakers who want to improve their English or just meet people in the community.

Let’s Talk will accomplish its goals by:

Offering language classes to adults and children

Providing opportunities for language exchanges in central Maine

Connecting with groups in the U.S., Canada and other countries for the purposes of language and cultural exchanges

Sponsoring local cultural events that feature food, entertainment, films or speakers from other countries

Enlisting local high school and college foreign language students to participate in Let’s Talk language exchanges

Sponsoring regular language-specific lunches and dinners for people to speak and practice their language skills

Providing lists of opportunities for people to volunteer working with foreign-speaking people in the local community or
abroad

Providing medical Spanish language classes

Providing links to cultural and language events around Maine

Seeking and applying for state, federal, and private funds to support language acquisition and cultural exchanges
